We have been invited by Hong Kong artist Ye Yun to collaborate in an art installation during Beijing Design Week held at Cao Cang Di, a farm turned arts venue. The intention was to collect wishes, creating albeit for a mere few days, a physical manifestation of hope. We decided on an existing half-cylindrical steel structure with a footprint of (18 x 3) square meters and overlaid it with large pieces of colored fabric; yellow/purple because of its optimistic emotive quality. An invitation was then extended to all to step inside this semi-enclosure to perform an age-old East Asian ritual of tying a knot with a small piece of cloth while making a wish.
